Fortnite in a nutshell

As far as games go, there is one that has got everyone talking in 2018. Fortnite. The game has rapidly become one of the most popular releases of the year so far, but if you haven’t quite caught up with it all yet then here is everything you need to know about Fortnite in a nutshell.

What is Fortnite?

Fortnite is a base-defense game with a spin-off battle royale. It’s as simple as that. But what does that mean? Well, the idea of the battle royale is to combat and defeat up to 99 other players from all around the world until you are the last one left standing. You begin the game parachuting in from the sky to a random position on the map. Then, it’s your job to collect as many weapons and ammunition as you please before someone spots you and takes you down. As soon as your life has ended, you are done with the game.

What are the buildings?

One thing that makes Fortnite different from other games is the building aspect. Players get the chance to craft buildings and ramps from the get-go, but are they worth the extra effort? In short, yes. They can help protect you from attacks as well as giving you a higher viewing point over the rest of the map. Just remember they can quickly be taken down by other players and might make you more visible to others on the map.

All those skins though

Of course, as with many games, there are plenty of ways you can customize your character in the game with costumes being a popular way to do so. Have no fear if you don’t want to fork out actual cash. Challenges offer up the chance to earn these skins and costumes for free, and the options available change each and every day meaning there is plenty of variety. As if that wasn’t enough, you can even earn an emote or two. These are taunts and dances players can use at any point throughout the game. Pretty cool, huh?

Where to play Fortnite

Amazingly, Fortnite is supported by just about everything out there. That’s right; both PC and Mac have their own version, as do Xbox One and PlayStation 4. To top it off, there is also a mobile version that means you can take the game with you no matter where you go. Still not convinced? Epic Games, the creators behind it all, have made it so Fortnite supports cross-platform. No longer do you have to worry if your friend has an Xbox while you have a PS4 – perfect.

When can we play the full game?

Although the battle royale is still taking the world by storm, it seems as though we might have to wait a little longer to get the fully released Fortnite: Save the World. That is unless you want to fork out a fee for an early access ticket to the game. However, it’s thought a free-to-play version of the game is set to be released at some point in 2018 meaning we can have our Fortnite cake and eat it too. Delicious.

You might have heard of Fortnite Battle Royale thanks to its takeover of the world, but don’t worry; there is still plenty more to come from Epic Games. At least now you know all there is to know about Fortnite in a nutshell that will keep you going for a little while.
